THE EDITOR, Sir:VERY strange things are happening in this country but even so I was quite amazed to hear the Minister of Water when he was being interviewed on the programme "Beyond the Headlines" declare that he did not know that the water supply of several fire stations had been disconnected.
This boggles the mind - here is a Minister who should have access to all the latest information, even if he is on the road and he had not heard about this situation. Certainly someone from his organisation should have kept him advised.
What is even more puzzling is the fact that there really should be a ruling that for essential services utilities should never be disconnected. All members of the various utilities should know about this ruling.
It would seem to me that a lot of house-cleaning has to be done and the accounting officers for the utilities should be told in no uncertain terms that utility bills must be paid.
Please Mr. Minister, in future do keep your ears to the ground for the good of the country.
The next oddity that comes to mind is the recent "scoop" by CVM TV and again I wonder in something so important to this country why did CVM not liaise with the police before going on the air and what about the lady who was mistaken for the missing American travel writer so maligned. CVM certainly did not do this nation a service in the so-called "scoop".
I am, etc.,
