Red Stripe wins SAJ Export Award

RED STRIPE copped the Shipping Association of Jamaica's special award for being the "Exporter with the Highest Tonnage Usage on Port Bustamante" during the year 2000 at the recent Jamaica Exporter' Association (JEA) Export Award function at the Le Meridien Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston.

The activity was part of National Export Week, observed by the JEA from June 18 - 22.

This award was presented to Joost Visser, Demand Director at Red Stripe by SAJ President, Grantley Stephenson, who congratulated the company for topping the list of contenders for the award. The SAJ has been presenting this award annually in an ongoing effort to support the export drive.

Desnoes and Geddes won the award consecutively from 1995 to 1998. Wray and Nephew Limited won the award in 1999.

This year, however, Wray and Nephew copped the award for being the Best Third World Country Exporter, while Grace Kennedy Export Trading Limited got the Best CARICOM Exporter Award. Jamaica Ginger Export Company Limited was given merit for being the most improved exporter. The award for the exporter with the highest tonnage usage at the two international airports went to Advanced Farm Technologies Limited.

Under the support services category, SAJ member-company, Jamaica Freight and Shipping, took home the award in the shipping sub-category.

Zoukie Trucking Service Limited, for the third time around, won the award in the Haulage Category.

JEA observes National Export Week as part of its thrust to highlight the critical need for the export sector to assume centre stage in the country's drive for economic growth. As part of the effort JEA has also undertaken a series of projects and programmes to provide in-firm assistance to raise efficiency and productivity at that level.
