HoldingRalph Holding, former president of Melbourne Cricket Club and father of former ace Jamaica and West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding, died at his home on Sunday.
Holding, 84, suffered a heart attack on May 23 while attending one of his grand daughters graduation ceremony in New York.
A former student of Kingston College, Ralph Holding played cricket and football and represented the school in the Sunlight Cup and Manning Cup competitions. He also represented YMCA in Senior League football and Melbourne in Junior Cup and Minor Cup cricket.
Apart from serving Melbourne as a committee member, as president, and again as a committee member, Ralph Holding made an invaluable contribution to the club.
In the 1980s, Melbourne said thank you to Ralph and well done to Michael, who by then had become one of the world's great bowlers, by naming the club house, Holdings' Pavilion.
A service of thanksgiving will be held on Saturday at the St. Margaret's Anglican Church.
