Sean paul very positive, no boundaries

HE'S ONE of Jamaica's most successful artistes, selling more than 75,000 albums last year for VP Records. He is 28-year-old Sean Paul Henriques. A former student of Wolmers Boys School, Hillel and Belair Academy and later the University of Technology, he pursued a degree in hotel management before turning to music.

Sean was inspired to music by his family and the DJs Super Cat, Shabba Ranks, and Major Worries.

He is friends with the Deejay Don Yute, a school mate who introduced him to the music business. Sean Paul then did demos for Cat Cooze of Third World who was a friend of his father, then he met the man who is now his manager, Jeremy Harding of 2 Hard.

In 1995 he recorded his first track on the 2 Hard label titled 'Baby Girl', on the fearless rhythm. Since then he has done popular tracks such as 'Infiltrate' on the 2 Hard Label, 'Nah Get Nuh Bly', on the Penthouse Label and 'Hot Gyal' with Mr. Vegas, which have all made him well known and loved by audiences worldwide.

Last year Sean put out the most successful album for VP Records for the year, "Stage One". Sean Paul says he knew he had fans waiting on an album but he hadn't anticipated the extent to which they would respond.

In his younger days he would perform at local block parties and barbeques but his first performance as an established artist was at Sting 1997.

Sean Paul has worked with producers such as, Steely & Cleevie, Tony Kelly, Penthouse, Jeremy Harding, Sly and Salaam Remi out of New York. He has done combinations with Mr. Vegas, Chico, Ce'cile, DMX, KRS 1 and out of Canada Kardinal Official and Angie Martenez. His 'Hot Gyal' duo with Mr Vegas did very well, it debuted at number 12 on the billboard charts and was used in the popular film "Shaft".

He has done shows worldwide, and last June he did a Hot A7 show where he performed alongside Snoop Dogg, Aaliyah, Jay Z and Eminem. He has been doing shows twice monthly since the year began and most recently completed independent shows in Atlanta and Fort Lauderdale.

Sean Paul is now back on the local scene with 'Vibes' on the Full Moon Rhythm, 'Can Yuh Do The Wuk', featuring Ce'cile on the Liquid Rhythm and 'Shake It Yaw Gyal' on the Storm Rhythm.

He is putting out another album which is expected in August. From this we expect an enhanced album which can be viewed on your computer and combinations with Ce'cile, Chico and Mr. Easy.

He advises anyone coming into the industry to come into it with all their heart, not just for the money. He adds that he takes his life one day at a time and sets no boundaries as to how far he can go in his musical career.
