Tough action against 119 operator

THE EDITOR, Sir:

RELATIVE TO a letter appearing in your paper entitled, "That 119 Operator" dated July 3, 2001, and written by Ron Good, I should like to inform you that the matter was investigated by my office.

Having listened to the recording of the 119 tape regarding the complaint of Mr. Good, it was discovered that the contents of the letter were accurate. The operator in question was identified and strong disciplinary action taken.

The Police Department sincerely regrets this incident and wishes to assure Mr. Good and the general public that the behaviour of the operator is totally contrary to the training received by 119 operators as well as the operating guidelines stipulated by the Police Department. These include the operator receiving the call identifying him or herself to the caller.

I am, etc.,

T.G. JOHNSON

Deputy Commissioner of Police

Operations & Crime Portfolio
