It is not for us to sit and judge

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I HAVE just read the letter regarding dancehall singers singing gospel songs, and was quite surprised by the attitude of some of the artistes interviewed, surely the Lord is being shown respect. We should be proud that these people are trying to encourage their fans to follow Christ.

I am a Christian who listens to dancehall and make a point of not listening to anything which has swearing, degoratory words aimed at women, or in fact anything I feel is negative, many of my friends and aquaintances feel exactly the same, it is not for us to sit in judgement on others.

Remember if, as one of the interviewees states, some people are just trying to make money out of Christianity, the truth will come out and fans will stop buying their music. As I write this I am listening to Buju Banton singing the Lord is my shepherd, which I personally find very inspiring. It is a piece of music which lifts me and really makes me feel at peace with the world.

There is nothing wrong with dancehall artistes giving praise when they perform, and the acknowledging of the source of their success and prosperity.

I am etc.,
