Ottey pulls out

Ottey

OSLO, (Reuters):

JAMAICAN sprinter Merlene Ottey has pulled out of Friday's Bislett Golden Gala in Oslo due to injury, organiser Svein Arne Hansen said yesterday.

"Ottey will not run on Friday," Hansen said. "She has not started so far this year because of injuries."

The eight-times Olympic medallist, now 41, was due to make her first appearance this year at Bislett after being out for several months with a back injury.

Hansen said the women's sprint duel would now be between triple Olympic champion Marion Jones of the United States, who has won comfortably in both Golden League events so far this year, and Ukraine's Zhanna Pintusevich.
