Stop this madness!

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE VIOLENCE that has rocked Kingston is doing irreparable damage to the reputation of Jamaica. The unrest is widely reported in the world press, with most news items also including the information that Jamaica has one of the highest murder rates in the world. The impression being given is that Jamaicans are incapable of governing themselves.

Every politician and every community leader must co-operate in the cessation of this violence before the impression becomes reality. The tragic loss of life in the war zone that Kingston has become will not go unnoticed by the rest of the world. Mr. Seaga, and Mr. Patterson have effectively ruined the tourist industry for at least this year, depriving the country of much needed foreign revenue. This condition is on the verge of becoming permanent.

I urge my Jamaican friends, of all political stripes, to stop this madness before it's too late.

I am, etc.,
