Down with tribalism

THE EDITOR, Sir:

FOR THOSE Jamaicans, locally and overseas who thought that tribalism was over, think again. Often times when the past (and present ) sins of the criminal, gangster, garrison politics practised by the PNP & JLP, comes up for discussion, many people say: 'Let sleeping dogs lie' or that they're 'sticking to the evil' that they know.

The 'sleeping dogs' are very much awake and are biting away at what's left of our children's future. I had to cancel a flight to Jamaica, due to the anarchy which is now taking place, with political criminals battling the security forces.

The more things change, the more they remain the same. Our country seems to be heading towards another 1979/80 civil war-type election campaign with our quasi-criminal organisations fighting and looting.

Mr. Seaga is a man of the past and it is time for him to leave the political scene. And Mr. P.J. Patterson must go too. Enough of him! Like Mr. Melville Cooke (in his Gleaner article), I refuse to endorse the methods and conduct of our PNP/JLP politicians. I refuse to endorse murder as a political strategy. I refuse to endorse arson, donmanship, thuggery, bogus voting. I refuse to endorse garrison politics. I refuse to endorse corruption and indecency. I will not support the criminal locking down of my country.

The difference, however, between those who refuse to vote due to the abovementioned prevailing circumstances, is that I refuse to allow them to rob me of my right to vote. I will give my vote to the only other alternative we have, the National Democratic Movement.

It is time we teach the two sets of tribalists and warlords a lesson two for the price of one! It's full time we take Jamaica back!

I am, etc.,
