REGGAE SUMFEST will be without one of the top local acts for dancehall night as the self-styled 'Prophet' Capleton will not be performing on the event.
It is said that Capleton had earlier been confirmed to perform on Dancehall Night at Reggae Sumfest but later withdrew because he found out that he would have to perform on the same night as deejay Beenie Man.
"It has nothing to do with us, we had contractual arrangements with him to perform on dancehall night. We went through an agency to acquire his services and he subsequently withdrew when he heard he and Beenie Man were to perform on the same night," explained Johnny Gourzong, director at Summerfest Productions.
'The Prophet' and 'The Doctor' Beenie Man have been at loggerheads for sometime now. Capleton is said to have taken the decision that he would not perform on any show on which 'The Doctor' was scheduled to perform.
"It's just immature behaviour on the part of Capleton. We (Summerfest Productions) can't be a babysitter to two people who can't sort out their differences," he added.
When contacted, Capelton's publicist, Bev Davis said she didn't know the real reason behind Capleton's decision not to perform.
"There's no information that I can give you that I'm privy to and Capleton won't be back in the island until Monday," she said.
On the suggestion of arranging for both acts to perform on two separate nights, Gourzong said: "We're not into that. I'm not a babysitter, we did that last year and we will not be doing that this year. They are both dancehall acts and as such they should perform on the same night".
In terms of the line up for the festival, apart from Capleton, other acts such as Wayne Marshall and Mr. Lex are missing. But the Summerfest Director stated that it was difficult to sign everybody since time was limited.
The line- up for the second International Night has several local acts performing, which is unlike what normally happens. But according to Gourzong; "We can't start the show at 9:00 p.m. with the international acts. Who will be there to watch them at that time? That's why we start with the local acts."
