Shirley Caesar for 'Gospel on the Beach'

Shirley Caesar

SHIRLEY CAESAR, a gospel favourite among Jamaican lovers of the genre for some two decades now, will be coming to Jamaica for 'Gospel On The Beach'.

Evangelist/singer Caesar has performed on some 40 albums and videos since 1966, several of which have sold gold. She has also won 17 Dove Awards, 17 Stellar Awards, two NAACP Awards, a Trumpet Award and 17 Grammy nominations, earning her the title of "The First Lady of Gospel".

She has had three sold out runs on Broadway and has also been involved with four major motion picture soundtracks - Whitney Houston's The Preacher's Wife , The Prince of Egypt, Why Do Fools Fall in Love and Rosewood.

In 1996, Caesar's contribution to Gospel Music was acknowledged in a tribute performance on the Grammy Awards telecast featuring her with Whitney Houston, Ce Ce Winans and Hezekiah Walker. Her career was also highlighted on ABC's '20/20' in a special feature aired in 1998.

Caesar was recently featured on the BET (Black Entertainment Television) 20th anniversary television special and she also recently appeared in Pastor T.D. Jakes' Woman Thou Art Loosed theatrical production, performing the title song from 'You Can Make It'. She premiered music from the album at her annual Shirley Caesar Outreach Ministries conference last month in North Carolina. The conference featured special guest appearances from renowned music contemporaries Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Kirk Franklin and Lou Rawls.

Caesar will be supported on 'Gospel On The Beach' by Papa San, the Emmanuel Mass Choir, Robert and Jenieve Bailey and the Praise Choir. Tony Young will be the M.C.

Tickets are already on sale at El Paso Records, Fontana Pharmacy and the Caribbean Showplace, Ironshore.
