THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT SHOULD not have escaped the notice of the political directorate that the procrastination on the issue of introducing casinos formally into the economy is beginning to have perilous results on tourism in the country in terms of competition throughout the Caribbean region.
I refer particularly to the new proposal which is being put forward by the State of Nevada to urge the Federal Government into resorting to casino gambling by means of the Internet.
The Nevadans are citing the region among other jurisdictions as countries which should never be allowed to leave the United States behind on a development loaded with a vast wealth of untapped economic resources.
In the meantime, this country continues to sleep on the issue like Rip Van Winkle.
I am, etc.,
