Schoolboy charged with murder

By Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

A 16-YEAR-OLD Kingston College schoolboy has been arrested in connection with the slaying of Gary Edwards, a student of Dunoon Technical High, who was stabbed to death in downtown Kingston on April 30.

Detectives probing the matter held the suspect in a pre-dawn raid in the Corporate Area yesterday. His name cannot be published as he is a juvenile under 18 years old.

He was arrested following intensive investigations by the Kingston Central police, East Queen Street.

Edwards, 18, was described as a promising footballer. He represented his school in the Manning Cup, and Boys' Town, in the Major League championship.

His death was linked to a feud between boys from the two high schools.

On the afternoon of April 30, he left school with several schoolmates for downtown.

Edwards and his schoolmates later split up, going in separate directions. While standing alone at South Parade, his attackers pounced, beating, stabbing and chopping him. The next day, he succumbed to the injuries in the Kingston Public Hospital.

It is yet to be determined exactly what sparked the dispute which led to the attack on Edwards.
