Twin brothers Jerome (left) and Jermaine may not be identical twins but they are so much alike. - Ian Allen
SIX-year-old Jerome and Jermaine White of Grey Ground, Manchester, aren't identical twins but you would never know that by just looking at them.
The more they grow, the more the boys resemble each other.
But their mother is adamant that they do not resemble. "I still can't see the resemblance although people always say that they look so much alike," said mother Patricia Colier.
Apart from the fact that Jermaine is a bit fairer than Jerome, there is very little physical difference between them.
In terms of their personalities there is not much difference either. Jerome is said to be the more quiet of the two, but otherwise the boy's personalities are quite similar. "The two of them behave the same. They love to fight but if they have anything eating Jermaine will always look out for Jerome," Miss Colier said.
The boys, who are in the same class at school, are said to be inseparable. "When they get sick they do so at the same time. They even go to sleep at the same time. They are always seen together at all times," their mother said.
Miss Colier said she never knew she was pregnant with twins until they were born. "When I went to the clinic the nurse said she heard two heart beats but she later told me that it was only one so I thought I was just having one baby."
Although she was told by her children's father that there was a strong possibility that she would have twins, she never believed it until they were born. The boys have twin relatives on both sides of their family.
"It was such a coincidence that I took two same red chemises to the hospital and that is what they put on when they were born," Miss Colier said.
Although Miss Colier loves her sons dearly, sometimes she says she has to beat Jermaine because he gives a lot more trouble than his brother. "Sometimes, for the fun of it, when I want to beat Jermaine, Jerome will hold him for me to beat him," she said.
Although the boys did not speak much during the interview, they both denied being troublemakers and instead accused each other of being the 'bad one'. "Is him give more trouble than me," said Jerome pointing to Jermaine.
Ivorine Brown, the twins' godmother, says they are fun to be around. "They are very friendly and if you have them for a day you never get fed up with them," she said.
Mrs Brown said she used to have problems telling the two of them apart and had it not been for their complexion and their personalities she would not have been able to tell them apart. "When they were smaller I couldn't tell them apart but as they grow older I can now tell them differently," she said.
