Prayers for a broken heart

By Necola Nolan, Contributor

At sometime or another we've all experienced the excruciating pain of a broken heart.

Of course some people are lucky enough to find person who loves them as much as they do from the beginning, so they never have to go through the 'breaking up' process. The rest of us though have to go through three, four disappointments before we find our knight in shining armour.

Still, as old people say, "Ebry hoe hab dem tick a bush." I believe that's true but boy, to find that stick can be truly a task and a half. Then again, nothing worthwhile in life is acquired with ease, as my father always tells me. "If you want good your nose have to run." So though its 'tuff' we have to just live it.

The big question is, how do we deal with the broken heart issue - the feelings of total depression, the losing or gaining of 10 lbs. overnight, the feeling of wanting to scream your head off and tear your hair out, the 'bleak' looking future, etc.

Well there are many answers but the one that has proven most effective is God, yes God. Plain and simple.

When you find yourself in such a quandary, I have found that nothing works better than a little kneeology (prayer), telling God exactly how you are feeling and asking for His peace to encompass you. Instead of thinking on what has happened (I know how terribly difficult that can be) try and think about the positives in your life, the goodness of God to you and how much He adores you. Read some encouraging scriptures and talk to somebody you trust.

Remember that it's not the end of the world, someday it will be a good story to tell your grandchildren. So chin up, you have the rest of your life ahead of you - live it to the fullest.
