Ernie and company blaze glory at Startime

ERNIE SMITH'S performance at the Heineken Startime show at the Mas Camp Village, New Kingston on Saturday will be spoken of for years to come.

As some persons left the venue some minutes after 2:00 a.m., they could be heard remarking on his performance.

The veteran singer, delivering hit after hit, kept the crowd on their feet dancing and cheering.

Ernie entered the stage with Pitta Patta and instantly had an effect on the lovers. They danced and hugged as he delivered his song with professionalism.

The singer further pleased his fans with Life Is Just For Living and eventually teamed up Pluto Shervington for a enriching musical moment.

But, it wasn't only Pluto and Ernie that pleased. Roy Rayon was like a gym instructor. He had the people working out so hard that buckets of Heineken were passed around regularly in attempts to quench the thirsts of patrons.

Rayon bawled out "Lord a hot" and the people called out for the Love Fever which he did with his usual trembling of the body.

One elderly woman, in a reddish wig, decided to compete with two young girls. But she just couldn't last she had to reach for a chair, while holding on to her wig. The fever was just too much for her.

Eric Donaldson also showed the crowd he too could keep the dance session in full flight.

Stanley Beckford provided comic relief with his outfit. The four-time festival song winner was also awesome in his performance with songs including Fi Wi Island A Boom.

The Abbysinians never impressed and overstayed their welcome while Shenley Duffus, who opened the show, could have done better.

Ernie Smith was given a Living Legend Award from MKB productions for his outstanding contribution to music. The award was presented by Pluto Shervington.
