IT WAS an evening of meeting, eating and surprises as friends of Dr. Heather Little-Whyte, food and nutrition consultant, gathered for a benefit performance at Braemar Road, New Kingston on Friday.
The proceeds from tickets sales will go towards Heather's Rehabilitation Fund and the Paraplegic Outreach Development Foundation located on Hanover Street, Kingston.
Two years ago, July 6, 1999, Heather was visiting a friend in Norbrook, St. Andrew, when she was held up and shot. She was left crippled after the incident. The news that her recovery process will cost thousands of dollars led her friends to organise two fund-raising events, the first of which was held in Old Harbour Bay, a year ago.
Friday's performance included a performance from Ken Boothe, who did two of his favourites, including 'Everything I Own'. The females went wild.
Heather Grant, a past festival song winner, delivered the song that caused her to walk away with the title, 'Mek Wi Put Things Right'
The rest of the evening featured good music, food and drinks. There were also give-aways and raffles for cakes, and grace products.
Heather sat beside her mother, Roberta Little-White, while her friends greeted her.
"All this that you see happening is arranged by my friends because of my contribution to many people. This is the second such event. The first was in Old Harbour Bay. They collected $100,000," she said.
She added that she was hoping to get well again one day. This sentiment was supported by her mother. "The miracle is already happening. Heather is my only daughter and I sometimes wonder why all this had to happen."
There was were so much excitement happening around Heather that she kept smiling.
