A nation crying out for help

THE EDITOR, Sir:

SINCE 1980 Jamaica has been experiencing what can be described as political tribalism which has caused the loss of thousands of lives. There have been many initiatives such as prayers for peace, peace talks, peace marches, turning lights on, dressing in the same colour, vigils and many other initiatives to no avail.

To me, none of those initiatives can bring about peace, much less lasting peace. In my opinion if the J.L.P. and P.N.P. are going to meet to discuss peace the people who are engaged in the fighting must be present at the table and they must take with them their guns and ammunition. If this is not done they are not asking for peace, they are asking for a cease-fire.

Mr. Patterson and Mr. Seaga have clearly demonstrated that they cannot handle the situation. We have accepted it and have called on the private sector and the Jamaica Council of Churches for help. They have answered the call to some extent, but we are still asking them to go further. We are saying, after you have sorted things out you will then give back the country to the warmongers, chances are things will go back to square one.

We are asking the Jamaica Council of Churches and the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica to join hands and form a party and be ready for the next election and we will support them wholeheartedly. There is a church and a business place in every nook and corner of Jamaica. Their victory is guaranteed. Help us to dismantle these two destructive monsters, PNP and JLP, and bring back Jamaica, land we love, to a state of civility. Help us to realise the New Dawn which has been spoken of. We are depending on you both, P.S.O.J. and J.C.C. Please don't let us and this country down.

I am, etc
