DAREN Ganga struck a century as West Indies played out a draw against Kenya in a four-day tour match yesterday after a day had been lost to rain.
The 22-year-old right-hand batsman from Trinidad and Tobago, worked hard for his 105, hitting 15 boundaries in an innings of 213 balls before he was caught by Tony Suji off Steve Tikolo.
Ganga and Chris Gayle resumed the West Indies first innings at 117 for no wicket in reply to Kenya's 290 after heavy rains had washed out play on Saturday, making the draw virtually inevitable.
They took their opening partnership to 160 before Gayle, who scored three centuries in Zimbabwe last month, was caught by Martin Suji off Tikolo, having scored 84 from 166 balls.
Leon Garrick returned to the pavilion for a duck, caught at long-on by captain Maurice Odumbe off Collins Otieno.
Odumbe snapped up the wicket of Wavell Hinds, who had hit a brisk 50 runs from 55 balls, and also accounted for Ramnaresh Sarwan (18) and Marlon Samuels (17).
Acting captain Courtney Browne and Neil McGarrell then shared a seventh-wicket partnership of 110 runs.
"Ganga and Gayle confirmed their outstanding opening partnership which started in Zimbabwe, which I must say is good for the future of Windies cricket," West Indies manager Ricky Skerritt said.
West Indies had beaten Kenya by an innings and 47 runs in their opening three-day match in Nairobi which finished last Monday.
"We have improved from our performance of last week. The boys showed more commitment and discipline in their batting approach," Kenyan coach Sandip Patil said.
