Evaluate your life

By Donovan Thomas

LET US today examine other purposes of problems:

TO TEST OUR CHARACTER

The real test of who we are is certainly not when things are going well. It is our response in times of difficulties that portray who we really are. Job proved to be a man whom God could depend on even during the greatest problems. When Abraham was tested he proved to be a man of character; one that God could rely on. Are you of such character that God can depend on you to be faithful in times of trials?

TO TEACH US TO
DEPEND ON GOD

Moses, on leading the Israelites out of Egypt, came upon the Red Sea. While many panicked in anticipation of death and defeat, God made a way out. David was very clear about his dependence on God as he faced the problem, Goliath. He said, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the Name of the Lord Almighty..." (1 Sam. 17:45a). When we depend on self, we get what self can give; when we depend on man we get what man can give; when our dependence is on Jesus Christ we get that which a Supernatural God can give. Who are you depending on?

TO MAKE US
BETTER NOT BITTER

We all desire to become better persons as the days go by. We cannot be the overcomers without troubles to overcome. It is our problems that present the opportunities for growth and betterment in our lives. The way we handle 'problem' determines whether we become better or bitter. That which appears to be a stumbling block may very well be a stepping stone.

It is pressure that converts charcoal into diamond.

PRAYER

Dear Jesus, please help me to depend on You as I face another problem; I desire to handle my problems in a way that builds godly character and helps me to become a better person. Amen.
