Old, tired people and the post office

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON JULY 4, 2001, I went to the Bushy Park Post Office in St. Catherine to collect my mails.

On my arrival, customers were waiting to get service. When I inquired why no one was at the counter, I was told that there was only one employee at work and she was on an hour lunch break. There were 10 customers who came for service, and five went away, while we waited patiently.

I find the postmistress there on this particular day to be unprofessional and rude. She must remember that she is there to serve the customers well and to put us first at all times.

Miss D, the next time you are left alone to man the Post Office and it is your lunch time I am suggesting that you take a shorter lunch time during the off-peak period.

I would like someone to tell me why should customers wait 60 minutes at any post office before we can get service. This could only happen in Jamaica. I am appealing to the Postmaster-General and Minister Paulwell to make sure we have people who are young and energetic, with new ideas with the training, to deliver quality customer service at all times.

Everyone keeps blaming the Government but the problem is with the old, tired people in the system with antiquated ideas and resisting change.

I am, etc.,

J. MAUREEN HAUGHTON (Mrs)

Bushy Park P.O.

St. Catherine
