Sashi magic in Montego Bay tonight

By Adrian Frater, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

THE GLITZ, glamour and fashion, Sashi's trademark since its inception, is set to explode in a blaze of excitement in Montego Bay tonight with the staging of a big 'Sashi Collection Fashion Show & Champagne Party' at the historic Rose Hall Great House.

"Its going to be a lot of glamour, class, fun and frolic," said a source close to LOY Productions, the promoters of Sashi 2001, dubbed 'The Experience'. "Tonight, patrons will be treated to a display of the Sashi Line of clothing by Sashi models and two international super models."

With the event poised to attract international media attention, some of the local models, especially those selected through the various Sashi Elimination contests, see this event as their grand coming out. Indications are that some of them stand a very good chance of attracting the attention of major players in the fashion industry.

Following the expected unleashing of high fashion, the historic great house is expected to take on a carnival-like atmosphere with what is expected to be a dazzling champagne party. In addition to the expected heavy turnout of local socialites, indications are that some of the overseas celebrities, who have being jetted into the island for Sashi, will be at the venue rubbing shoulders with local revellers. Tonight's event brings to a grand climax Sashi's two-day excursion through the tourist capital. The Sashi experience was slated to start last night with two events, the Sashi Awards Dinner at the upscale Ritz Charlton Hotel, in Rosehall and two after dinner parties at the neighbouring Coral Cliff Gaming Lounge and Margueritaville. The Ritz Charlton dinner was slated to attract a selected group of celebrities from screen, stage, catwalk and studios. Based on information garnered from Sashi executives, the 'dinner' was billed as a fun-raiser for the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre, a premier care centre for people disabled in accidents.

Events

"After the Dancehall Night fiasco at Reggae Sumfest, these Sashi events are most welcomed in Montego Bay as it gives the city a chance to prove that it is still a quality host to major events," said renowned musicologist/promoter Allan Lewin. "It is my hope that it will be funfilled experience devoid of any unpleasant situations."

Sashi, which has evolved from the one night concert it was three years ago into a five-day event, is embracing Montego Bay for the first time and the city's tourism and business community seems quite pleased about it. According to Ms. Lucille Lue, the general manager at Coral Cliff, they are quite happy to be a part of the Sashi experience.

"We had one of the elimination fashion shows here and it went quite well," said a seemingly satisfied Lue, who happens to be one of the founding members of Summerfest Productions Limited, the promoters of Reggae Sumfest. "We fully endorse Sashi and as you might know, we were chosen to host one of their parties."

Following the Montego Bay experience, Sashi will move to its original 'home' Ocho Rios for a series of events. These include the 'Sashi Boxer Shorts & Bikini Party', the Steven Seagal's Sashi Kiddies Day, the Sashi Dime Girl Pre-Concert Party and the big one, the Third Annual Sashi Concert.

The Third Annual Concert, slated for the James Bond Beach on Sunday, August 26, will feature top stars such as P Diddy, Missy Elliot, Tyrese, Jimmy Cozier, Voise Mail, Case, Steven Seagal, Shabba Ranks, Lady Saw, TOK and Kevon Edmonds.
