DEVON FRANCIS, a technician employed to Cable and Wireless of Jamaica who the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Kent Pantry, ruled should be charged in connection with tampering with the works of his employers, was taken before the St. Andrew Criminal Court in Half-Way Tree Court, yesterday morning.
This was shortly after he was served with a summons by Assistant Commissioner of Police Osbourne Dyer.
The case was mentioned and put off until Wednesday September 13 when he is to return to court.
"He is charged with tampering with the works of Cable & Wireless under Section 3(1) of the Public Utilities Protection Act and under Section 4(b) for using the works in a manner inconsistent with the expressed or implied authority of Cable & Wireless," Mr. Dyer said. Francis who is also known as "Bigga" was represented by attorney-at-law Garth Little.
On August 3, the DPP handed down his ruling to the police that Suzette Gibson, another Cable and Wireless employee along with Roderick McGregor, the alleged leader of the civilian-Intelligence Unit which conducted the illegal wire-tapping and Francis should be charged.
But McGregor is at present in the Bahamas, while Gibson has gone on leave since July, vacationing in the United States. Up to yesterday the police were unsure when Gibson was scheduled to return.
