Ja, T&T slide on FIFA's world rankings

ZURICH, CANA:

TOP REGIONAL sides Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica slipped several places on FIFA's Coca Cola world rankings in the August list released yesterday.

Trinidad and Tobago, the reigning Copa Caribe champions, dropped five places to 32nd after no wins in a four-nation Asian series, while a winless Caribbean tour for Jamaica reduced the Reggae Boyz to 52nd, down seven places from their July position.

St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) moved two places up the Caribbean chart by moving from 130th to 128th up FIFA's list.

T&T, already eliminated from the 2002 World Cup qualifiers after with a winless six-match roster, have also lost the number three spot in CONCACAF, the Confederation of North, Central America, and the Caribbean, overtaken by Honduras and Costa Rica.

Honduras, following a win over Brazil en route to third in the Copa America tournament, jumped 25 places - to an all-time high 23rd - moving ahead of T&T.

Mexico, 12th in the world, remain CONCACAF's top team, followed by the United States (16th).

Costa Rica are fourth at 31st, followed by T&T and Jamaica, who are joined by Cuba (77th) and Haiti (83rd) as the only Caribbean Football Union (CFU) teams in the top 100.

The rest of the CFU top 10 is Barbados, fifth at 106th in FIFA, SVG sixth, St Kitts and Nevis (129th), St Lucia (130th), Grenada, up five places to 132nd, and Suriname (142nd).

World champions France keep the world's number one label, followed by Brazil, with Argentina third, followed by Italy, Germany, and Colombia, with the Czech Republic and Spain sharing seventh.
