No takers for Marley poster

Marley

A VERY rare "in-person" signed poster of the reggae music legend, Bob Marley, attracted zero bids, after ten days on the auction block at a starting price of US$10,000.

The auction for the pricey poster, which lasted from August 14 to 24, was conducted on the website eBay.com.

According to the owner of the poster, David Valentine of Gainesville, Georgia, the autograph was obtained from the reggae king himself at Turtle Records in Jonesboro, Georgia, around 1978-1979. The signed poster has been framed and protected for two decades.

Considered one of the greatest musical artistes of his time, Bob Marley was the first Jamaican Reggae performer to achieve significant international stardom.

During his lifetime, the Jamaican singer, guitarist, and songwriter's music was closely associated with the movement toward black political independence. His music has remained highly popular, and for many it has continued to symbolise the hopes of the downtrodden for a better life outside urban slums.

Marley's music has also influenced several pop artistes such as songwriter Stevie Wonder and rock guitarist Eric Clapton.
