Four J'cans in A'Level top five

FOUR JAMAICAN students excelled this year in the GCE Advanced Level Biology, Sociology, and General Paper examinations, finishing among the top five candidates worldwide.

The four students, who attend schools in the Corporate Area, competed against thousands of others who sat the same General Certificate Examination (GCE) subjects this year throughout schools in 170 countries worldwide. The exams are offered by the University of Cambridge in England.

The four -- Kalia Skeete of Campion College, who placed fourth in Biology, and Jodi-Ann Johnson of Exed Community College, who like Dameta Gayle of Wolmer's Girls, were jointly placed fourth in Sociology. The other student is Stephanie Malcolm of Immaculate Conception High who shared second place in General Paper.

Sharon Burnett, assistant director for the Overseas Examination Office, hailed the students' performance as brilliant. "The GCE is done in 170 countries (worldwide), so for our students to place so highly in these subjects is an exceptional performance," she told The Gleaner.
