Black and white aspirations

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I JUST read the commentary on "It's my turn". Why is it necessary to have situation black against white. In the first place, it was not always white against black anyway. As we all know, a large number of coloured kids did receive education and equal opportunities.

In a country, where we pride ourselves to be "out of many one" we should not be against each other in which ever way. As a matter of fact, one of the most important factors of my bringing up in Jamaica was to nourish equality.

Much later in my life I got aware of my own colour.

I think we should restrain ourselves from rivalry of any kind, and be proud of our unity and mutual background and goals for the future. It is a waste of time to create hatred, we are all one anyway. What would happen to all of the mixed people in Jamaica, which make probably the majority of our population? I would be very concerned about these barriers, as they would influence society, economics and long established and precious relationships.

I am etc.,
