CONTROVERSIAL female entertainer Lady Saw feels she is being unfairly targeted, noting that the attempt at trying to censor her performances is an infringement on her freedom of speech.
In an interview with THE STAR after her "very mild" performance at Sashi where she refrained from the sort of lewdness which had become her customary trademark.
Lady Saw said she was tired of being made a scapegoat for society's ills and noted that there were those who were trying to undermine her career.
"There are some bad minded people who want to see me leave dancehall but I am not going anywhere as a me help build this," she warned. "A lot of fight I have been getting but I will be okay."
The entertainer said: "I am not wanted by the police." At the Champions in Action show two weeks ago, the police have issued summons for Anthony B, Sizzla and Bounty Killer for using indecent language on stage. Lady Saw also performed on that show.
Lady Saw, while acknowledging that the laws of a country ought to be obeyed, said she was concerned that the right to freedom of expression could be denied to artistes.
She added that by asking an artiste to desist from certain expressions could in effect hurt the performances of artistes on stage.
Lady Saw said she doesn't receive the same level of hassle when she performs overseas and noted that she wasn't ruling out doing most of her future performances abroad.
And on the subject of Sumfest she said some of the organizers and the local parish council had disrespected her and that she took a principled stance on not attending the festival.
"The money wasn't the issue," she said. "They disrespected me and I just felt that I should not perform on the show."
"Because dem know that I have always been the raw as ever Lady Saw, they are targeting me," she added.
"No matter the fight them can't stop me though."
