WESTERN BUREAU:
AS IF Reggae Sumfest and Sashi were not enough, Montego Bay is once again in the process of witnessing another event of international proportions.
However, this time instead of flying bottles there are flying acrobats, instead of offensive language there is humour and instead of gun salutes there is a human cannon ball. Since the International Holiday circus exploded on the social scene of Montego Bay last Thursday, patrons have been flocking to it in droves to shake away the summer blues. "I love it," gushed one patron who said he drove his entire family all the way from Ocho Rios for an evening of fun. "Plus, it's a good treat for the children."
Based in Mexico, the International Holiday Circus is currently on a world tour and Jamaica is on the itinerary. Julio Revolldo Crdenas, the circus' administrator, told The Gleaner that the circus has something for everyone. He said that Jamai-cans love animals and animals are a major part of the show. Some of the animals the circus uses include llamas, Bengali Tigers, elephants, and Shetland Ponies.
Mr. Crdenas also said that the circus currently employs at least 30 Jamaicans and he hopes to take 15-20 of these employees on the continuation of the world tour. "We are working on their passports right now," he said. He also hopes to employ two local artistes.
The circus, which will be in Jamaica till November 14 and which employs actors from 11 countries, will make its next stop in Ocho Rios.
