Jamaica's education officers go high-tech

JAMAICA'S education officers are going high-tech, with 50 brand new laptop computers on order.

As part of a co-ordinated effort to promote information technology in the education system in Jamaica, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Culture, will be equipping the officers with laptops by the end of the year.

Education, Youth and Culture Minister, Senator Burchell Whiteman, who made the announcement, said the provision of laptops was timely as people in that line of business had to be in touch with new approaches.

Additionally, Mr. Whiteman said that education officers needed to have their working material at hand, in an easily accessible way, and would in fact benefit from access to laptop computers.

He said that 50 laptop computers would be supplied to the education officer corps before the end of the year, adding that the cost of the computers would be about $3.5 million.
