THE EDITOR, Sir:I WRITE in regard to an article in your newspaper dated Thursday, August 16th captioned "PNP MP defies Parish Council Stop Order." I would like to ask a few questions and then state some facts as I know them.
I was born and have lived all my life in Annotto Bay so I speak with authority about the facts on Annotto Bay. I heard Robert Montaque speaking to Wilmot Perkins on Wednesday, August 15 advising him that the stop order was served at 1 p.m. He further stated that what Mr. Douglas had to do was to make an application. Unsolicited he volunteered the following. "Even if he make the application now the plan cannot be approved as we do not have a Superintendent".
In law, who could serve the stop order, if not the Superintendent? The person signing the stop order did not even indicate that he was signing for the Superintendent. When one impersonates a position as important as a Superintendent of a Parish Council to serve a notice, is that legal?
Mr. Editor, let me state some facts as it relates to Merrick Trust Property. Your correspondent writes that Sharon Steele has lived on the property for the last 12 years. She said no lease has been paid by any of the tenants since 1990 when the agent, George Edwards, died.
How can anyone pay tax for Government property to the Government? Who authorised such a person to pay the tax? Has someone been making claim to the property by virtue of paying tax?
If I am to believe your reporter, may I again quote Miss Steele, "All we have been doing is a few of us who have house join together and pay the land tax." Is this not her own motive for what I ask?
I am, etc.,
