Commendations to the ladies

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I MUST take time out to commend a set of ladies who were busy in the Independence City area on Saturday, August 18, 2001. Decked in their shorts, they painted two pedestrian crossings which for a long time could hardly be seen. They were ably assisted by three men from the National Works Agency.

Across the road was a sign which read "Kiwanis Club of South St. Catherine", tied to one of the cars. During this time, I witnessed motorists passing by hurling their comments, not all positive, to these ladies.

I would like to take this opportunity to commend these women, who continue to make a difference in people's lives, and urge the Government agencies to continue to assist them in doing the tasks that they have identified.

Thank you ladies of the Kiwanis Club of South St. Catherine for a job well done.

I am, etc.,

JOAN BURTON

St. Catherine
