By Donovan Thomas, ContributorWHAT DO you do when you feel as if God has let you down? Last week we saw where Habakkuk (Chapter 1) argued, complained and accused God of inactivity, indifference and inconsistency. However, he grappled with the reality of his day in light of his knowledge of God and finally he got to the point where he was willing to trust God and wait to see what He would do.
Habakkuk's period of waiting was not characterised by passivity but by a state of expectancy
State of Expectancy
Habakkuk 2:1a, 'I will stand at my watch', affirmed that during his time of waiting the prophet was in a state of expectancy. Difficult though the situation was, he declared that he would station himself in a position where he would quickly see God at work. He was expecting God to intervene and bring about a change.
In your times of unanswered questions and disappointments, do not give up. Live with the expectation that God will come through for you.
State of Positive Relationship With God
It is quite evident that as Habakkuk faced the challenges of life that he remained in a state of positive relationship with God. He desired two way communication, "...I will look to see what he will say to me and what answer I am to give..." (2:2b).
In times of uncertainty let us resist disbelief, carelessness and backsliding and do all we can to strengthen our relationship with God. A strengthened relationship with God helps us to maintain the right attitude.
State of Prayerfulness
Habakkuk in his time of waiting turned to God in prayer. As he prayed he reflected on God's goodness in the past. "Lord, I have heard of your fame. I stand in awe of your deeds..." (3:2a). He cried out for renewal, "Renew them in our day" (2b).
In these tough times, let us maintain a state of prayerfulness and remember, `God is a good God all the time`.
PRAYER
Dear Lord, please help me in times of doubt and hardship to maintain a positive relationship with you, to reflect on your goodness, to commit myself to prayer and to always expect your supernatural intervention. Amen.
