Happy 62nd for Fr Ho Lung

Ho Lung - File

NOTHING ELSE could have pleased Father Ho Lung on the day before his date of birth than to know he has life to care for the poor. The founder of The Missionaries of The Poor, who celebrated his 62nd birthday last Sunday, did so among friends including the Most Reverend Edgerton Clarke, Roman Catholic Arch Bishop of Kingston.

Friends of Ho Lung not only sang Happy Birthday but they also later hugged and congratulated the missionary on his outstanding work over the years. The records show Ho Lung has now established five homes, caring for almost 500 persons who are considered destitute in Kingston. He has also established missions for the homeless in Africa, India, Haiti and the Phillipines.

On Sunday Father Ho Lung visited one such institution where he bathed and fed inmates. He also attended a church service at Corpus Christi Chapel, North Street, where he praised God for life, and a function where five brothers from the Missionaries of The Poor gave their vows to serve the poor and the Lord.

It was at this function at Corpus Christi, North Street, that missionaries rendered songs of praise.

The songs, all written by Father Ho Lung, were well-received by the audience who cheered at the end.

There were members of the audience who were tempted at times to get up and enjoy themselves because the music was alive with the beating of drums.

The hymn Feed On Me was timely as the missionaries made their commitment to serve the poor and the Lord. There were others like I'm Filled With Joy and Friendship Forever which showed the need for us to share as this is the will of the Lord.

It was not long after when many shared in the sumptuous food which was provided by friends of The Missionaries Of The Poor. While that was happening many got the opportunity to congratulate Father Ho Lung on his birthday.

They included the former Mexican ambassador to Jamaica, Jose Luis Vallarta and his wife Alicia. Also present were Reverend Winton Williams from the Baptist Union; Dr. Barry Wade From UWI, Dr. Alfred Sangster and a number of Catholic sisters and priests.
