THE EDITOR, Sir:
THIS AN open letter to Mr John Andrade: It is unfortunate that you read only a short portion of the response to Tuesday's tragic and chaotic events in New York and Washington and sought to judge Air Jamaica's President, Christopher Zacca as being cold and unfeeling. For your information, Mr Zacca's first response to the reporter was that we are extremely saddened by the loss of lives and we pray for the victims of the horrible tragedies in New York and Washington.
When pressed further by the reporter on how much money the airline was losing Mr Zacca said we are not focused on money at this time, we are trying to ensure that the passengers who were on our diverted flights are safe and comfortable. We are also trying to see how we can get all our other passengers who have been stranded in this difficult time get back to their homes and families safely.
The reporter continued to press for information on the losses and Mr Zacca said, Air Jamaica is not focusing on the losses now and therefore I can't give you a figure, but the losses will run into millions. Air Jamaica has no control over what reporters and editors choose to highlight. That is their job.
The tragic events in New York and Washington give us all an opportunity to reflect on our lives and it is certainly not the time to throw arrows. Mr Andrade, I would humbly suggest that before you cast judgement you get the full story first. Best regards.
I am etc.,
SANDREA FALCONER
