THE EDITOR, Sir:
ACTS OF atrocities continue to be committed in the west end of the city, a tragic consequence of ideological/political difference, which dates to the post Independence period of 1967 and is symptomatic of the polarisation in this country.
Those of us tasked with the thankless responsibility of the security of this nation must exercise heightened vigilance as urban terrorists unleash mayhem.
Let all those who begrudged, however, fleetingly, the allocation of appropriate funds to security budgets, be reminded of the potential consequences of inadequate security.
The performance of our security forces to impact on criminality/terrorism is dependent on the quality of its intelligence gathered, analysed and acted on.
Technology aided intelligence is readily available to criminals and urban terrorists. It is, therefore, of paramount importance for our security force to be ahead of these developments. In that regard, I urge that the necessary training and funding be immediately provided. Life is too damn cheap in Jamaica.
Give the security forces the tools and let us deliver the goods. The attempt made to firebomb Parliament should be one good enough reason. Can anybody see where we as a nation are headed?
I am, etc.,
