THE FUTURE is untold they say and so is the life of our music industry. Among the people hoping to make it right is fresh act Deejay Future G, a talented youth whose skills shine in his latest releases.
'Fi Get Gal', for all the 'Players', and 'Di Poor' that highlight the struggles and strifes of youths in the ghetto, are three of the singles now out. 'Watch Yu Self' on the More Wheat rhythm is also getting much airplay.
Although young in his career, Future G has managed to rock a few stage shows, including the recent Reggae Trail show 2001 in Portland. Future G's love for performing was influenced he says by "the artistes from back in the day" as well as his habit of singing along with his favourite radio tunes.
Born Gregory Davis, Future G lives in Yallahs, St. Thomas and is in his early 20s. The bashful former Yallahs Comprehensive High School student says he doesn't like to disclose his age 'cause I look smaller than my age'. Future G who manages himself is also compiling an album.
In regards to the 'business' Future G says: "We (young artistes) have the stuff but not the links to put it out".
Making progress in the music business is hard work, he confesses, adding that it's "an every day thing" and "you have to take it step by step". With the many obstacles he faces, the young man says it can get "kind of doubtful" and cites insufficient "input from Disc Jockeys" but, he will not give up, he adds.
For other aspiring musicians, Future G advises that they "just be resolute" in moving towards their goals and "if you try and fail just try again".
