Tank-Weld a good corporate citizen

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WITH ALL that is being said about Tank-Weld Equipment Limited, I wish to place on record the invaluable contributions that this company has given to the Jamaica Constabulary Force and particularly the Police Community Relations Branch over the years.

In our continued effort to implement project and programmes to enhance better Police/Public relations, especially between youth from inner-city communities, Tank-Weld has always given us tremendous assistance in our endeavours. Youngsters who push handcarts Downtown, Kingston, can attest to this.

One of our projects at community relations is our Annual Push Cart Derby meet, held at Red Gal Ring, St. Andrew. Each year Tank-Weld would provide among other things three trucks along with drivers to transport competitors and their carts from the markets in downtown to Red Gal Ring. At the end of the event, they would be transported back to their base. All this was done by Tank-Weld free of cost.

Just a few days before that unfortunate incident at Tank-Weld, the Police Community Relations Office was approached by this company, seeking advice as to how to establish a Youth Club for youngsters in the Seaward and Olympic Gardens Area.

It is regrettable what transpired at Tank-Weld recently, especially with the loss of life and the massive destruction of property and one can only hope that there will be no more incidents of this nature. It is also encouraging to note that the citizens of the community and Tank-Weld are now meeting to talk things over for the betterment of both sides.

I am, etc.,

KEITH DAVIS

Sergeant of Police

1 Ruthven Road,

Kingston 10
