CampbellCaymanas Track Limited's (CTL) first female president and CEO, Rose Campbell, was dismissed at a meeting of the board on Thursday.
Despite widespread approval of Ms. Campbell's job since her appointment in October last year, the board took the surprising decision by a vote of five to three. CTL board chairman Howard Hamilton, according to reports, was one of the three directors who voted in her favour.
Mr. Hamilton was not at Caymanas Park yesterday and efforts to contact him proved futile. However, a director, speaking on the grounds of anonymity, confirmed the board's decision to dismiss Ms. Campbell.
"As things now stand it's all in the hands of the chairman," he declared. He further said the resolution passed at the meeting was not accepted by Mr. Hamilton, who has since referred the matter to Finance Minister, Dr. Omar Davies.
Ms. Campbell was still very much at the helm of CTL yesterday but was unavailable for comment. Since her appointment as CEO, Ms. Campbell has come under much criticism from the Jamaica Racehorse Trainers Association even though she has brought a new management style to the company, especially in the area of securing sponsorship for major races from corporate entities. JTRA vice-president, Vin Edwards, said "local racing has been deteriorating under her management, and the whole PR revolves around her rather than the industry."
