Insane suggestion

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I find A.S. Byfield's suggestion that Ms. Haughton should join forces with the Jamaica Labour Party, instead of forming the UPP quite insane. The woman has class.

The dismal and sad state that Jamaica is in now, illiteracy, economic stagnation, increased crime, and the list goes on, is caused by both of these political tribes. They have no interest in Jamaica whatever, they are only interested in their parties.

When I lived in England during the 1960s, friends of mine who studied at the London School of Eco-nomics, boasted that Jamaica was the topic as a small country on an upward trend (and how elated I was). This country has made some giant steps backward, and these two political juggernauts are both to be blamed. One builds, and when the other gets in, it breaks down and vice versa.

We need to get rid of the pork-barrel politics that they have created. They are both indisciplined and have run out of ideas. Promise-promise-promise.

The only way to rid ourselves of these political loggerheads, is to replace them with new politics and new blood, and make them both history. Every system in this country has failed, collapsed, and needs overhauling.

The only way is up. We can't afford to get any worse. Congratulations, Ms. Haughton.

I am, etc.,
