Munro dismiss STETHS

Paul A. Reid, staff reporter

WESTERN BUREAU: Munro College signalled they are coming into top form in the Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup yesterday after a 3-0 win over arch-rivals St. Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) in Santa Cruz.

Goals from Wesley Gayle, captain and central defender Copeland 'Ziggy' Lewis and Shane McFarlane handed Munro their third straight win and snapped STETHS' three-game win streak.

STETHS continue to lead Zone E however, albeit on goal-difference as both teams have nine points.

Cedric Titus' three-game win streak was also snapped when Ocho Rios High held them to a 0-0 draw at Drax Hall in Zone D.

At Jarrett Park, defending champions Cornwall College rode a 2-0 halftime lead to a 3-1 win over St. James as they romped to their third straight win and increased their lead atop Zone A.

Orlando Coleman in the 14th minute, Garrick Gordon in the 40th and Dane Richards in the 75th allowed Cornwall to pocket all three points. A mix-up between defender Kenniel Blake and goalkeeper Richard McCallum five minutes into the second half allowed Omar Campbell to pull St. James within a goal.

Campbell came close to scoring again in the 86th minute when a long-range effort eluded McCallum but hit the underside of the crossbar and rebounded into play.

Cornwall wasted a number of scoring opportunities throughout the game with Gordon, DeShawn Woolery and Coleman all failing to capitalise on chances that were created.

Rusea's jumped into the lead in Zone B after their 3-0 win over Green Island while a struggling Frome Technical held Anchovy to a 0-0 draw.

Rusea's are on 10 points, two more than Anchovy.
