BRENTON PARCHMENT scored his second half century in as many matches to lead Nehemiah Perry's XI to a 33-run victory over Robert Samuels' XI in the second trial match to select Jamaica's Red Stripe Bowl team at Melbourne Oval yesterday.Scores Perry's XI 186 for 7 off 50 overs, Samuels' XI 153 from 43 overs.
After being sent in to take first strike, Parchment (57, 4x4, 3x6) and Keith Hibbert (four) put on 30 runs for the first wicket. Hibbert was first to go, brilliantly caught behind by West Indies Under-19 wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh Jnr. off paceman Darren Powell.
Parchment, after playing some beautiful strokes, fell to a Brian Murphy topspinner. Ricardo Powell, continues his bad run when he played back to a Garrick Breese delivery and step on his wicket with only six to his name.
Donovan Pagon was the next to go, caught by Leon Garrick at mid-wicket off Murphy for 31 and Perry was soon after run out for 10 to leave the team at 149-5.
Wayne Cuff (31) and Matthew Sinclair (16 not out) were the other batsmen to reach double figures while Powell with 2-28 from eight overs and Murphy 2-47 off 10 overs were the primary destroyers.
When Samuels' XI replied, Garrick and Wavell Hinds got the team off to a fairly good start with 50 for the first wicket. Garrick, looking to accelerate the scoring, was bowled by paceman Warren Medwynter for 31.
Soon after Tamar Lambert was caught at by wicketkeeper Sinclair off his St. Catherine teammate Jermaine Lawson for one. Five runs later, Lawson had the wicket of Robert Samuels, bowled for four at 63-3.
When Breese (12), Murphy (seven), Baugh Jnr. (six) and David Bernard Jnr (45) fell to leave the score at 141-7 it was all over for Samuels' XI.
Off-spinner Ricardo Powell with 3-14 from six overs and Lawson with 2-21 from nine overs were the best bowlers for Perry's XI.
The third trial match will be played today at the same venue starting at 9:30.
