THE EDITOR, Sir:
ON SUNDAY September 23, I had the most negative experience of recent memory when I attended the funeral of a friend and associate Constable Clyde Morgan formerly of Denham Town Police Station. Mr. Morgan was killed whilst on duty on Saturday September 1.
I write to register my disgust at the manner in which this unarmed officer was murdered and the silent uncaring manner which the public treats the killings of our lawmen. Constable Morgan was shot 12 times whilst stuck in traffic sitting in a police jeep in the market area of downtown. He was unarmed, he was a Community Relations Officer and he begged for his life. The most brutal aspect is that whilst he was being murdered the citizens of this country stood by and not only did nothing but shouted "Put it on" urging the killers to proceed.
To the citizens of this country who shouted and encouraged this act I wish to point out to you that you helped to kill a man who was not only a police officer but a husband, and a friend of many, someone quick to smile and to help. You assisted in killing a man who carried no gun to defend himself, who in his entire service had not fired a gun in anger. I ask that you citizens of this country reflect on your deed and be sure of the knowledge that your shame shall fall on your children.
To the killers of Constable Morgan I would waste no ink to ask you to reflect but simply promise that you will pay for your crime and to inform you that I put myself and the resources of my company totally at the disposal of the police to aid in your being hunted like the animal you are.
Constable Morgan is one of 11 policemen murdered this year and their are no questionable circumstances surrounding any of them, they were killed protecting the citizens of this country and the laws of this land. McKay Security is offering a reward of $100,000 for any information leading to killers of Constable Morgan being brought to justice and we ask that other companies adopt the other police killings in a similar manner to assist the investigation and bring the killers to justice.
I would lastly like to point out to you the decent citizen of this country that whatever opinion you may have of the police in this country.
They are the only buffer between us and the criminal element, the slaughter of our children and the protection of the weak. It is time for us all to find our soul and offer support.
I am, etc.,
JASON McKAY
