Letter of the Day - The silent leaders

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE PERSISTENT violence in the Mountain View area that has resulted in the loss of more than 10 lives, including that of a 10-year-old girl, has been met with little or no comments at all from the Prime Minister or the Leader of the Opposition.

In the case of the Opposition Leader, he is the person who is supposed to be a representative of all Jamaicans as he seeks once again to be elected to power. Why is he so silent about the Mountain View affair? Are his 'people' only the people in Tivoli? Is he so silent because he cannot put blame squarely on the Prime Minister's shoulders so he can use it as a part of his campaign?

As for the Prime Minister, he is silent to the point of being non-existent. What is his purpose anyway? He is busy promising to re-take whatever constituency he lost in the last by-election.

What about all those guns that are barking day and night Mr. Patterson, shouldn't they be your priority?

Neither of these men inspire any confidence in me, and I know that I am speaking for the majority of young, intelligent Jamaicans. None of these gentlemen could get my vote; they have failed us miserably. It is obvious that they have lost all control of crime in this country. These men do not care about me or my country, all they care about is themselves and bad-mouthing each other in the name of retaining or getting into power. They are a disgrace and should both step aside and allow somebody else at this point anybody else to take over.

I am etc.,

FED- UP JAMAICAN
