Responding to the 'Attack on America'

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM hastening to tell the Americans who have suffered the terrible attack on their country on September 11, 2001 that retaliation is not the answer to whoever carried out the attack. Solomon said "He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city" (Proverbs 16:32).

It is better for them to lick their wounds and swallow their pride. Should they retaliate in any form the world will burst into a conflagration that would continue ceaselessly till Jesus Christ comes.

The Huguenots of France suffered much persecution in 1572 on St. Bartholomew's Day, over 10,000 people were killed in Paris in three days. It was repeated in 1685 when any remaining Huguenots were expelled from France.

The British Prime Minister Wallpole once said, "you are ringing the bells now but you will soon be ringing your hands."

What are the Christians of the world doing? Are they going to sit like Nero fiddling while Rome is burning? On September 11, 2001 history has been made and cannot be erased.

I am, etc.,

A. CALLUM
