The scourge of police brutality

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT IS with much disgust that I write on the matter of the numerous reported cases of police brutality.

"To serve and protect" is this fact or fiction? I think it is about time that the Commissioner of Police address the nation on the behaviour of the police. What kind of training are these men given that make them so eager to pull their firearms?

It has happened too many times; our own protectors shooting and killing us. Aren't people "innocent until proven guilty"?

In most cases the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) account is carefully 'scripted', bizarre and always seem to conflict with those of 'eye-witnesses'.

I am imploring the persons responsible to review the requirements for entering the police force and to look again at the training. They should also make sure that these men and women are emotionally and psychologically ready to 'serve and protect' the people of this country. Detailed personnel audits should be done on all (family history, educational background, traits, associates, et al.).

We need to make our country safer. We must make our feelings known and also give ideas, which will help to build a better nation for all.

I am etc.,
