Time to curb local terrorism THE EDITOR, Sir: I HAVE been following up events in the USA since the September 11 terrorist attack. We Jamaicans have sympathised with the USA in their time of crisis, but we must not forget our own terrorist-like attacks by brutish elements which have no love for their fellow countrymen. With regard to the photograph of the postman and his end of time warnings, which appeared on the front page of The Star on Monday, September 24, 2001: Although the various quotations may be symbolic, we do not have to go as far as to the USA. We have end-time happenings in our own backyard. The murder toll for the year 2000 was 887 murders, with this year's murder rate at 812 to date, and there is no guarantee that it will not increase by year end. Terrorist attacks, like what took place in the USA, must not be tolerated, however. The same zealous approach to such terrorist attacks, must also take its course as regards to terrorist type murders that are taking place in our society. Leave no stones unturned, all crimes must be dealt with, in order to have a better world. I am, etc., ROGER WILLIAMSON Rose Hall District Linstead P.O. St. Catherine
