Cubans held in MoBay cocaine bust

WESTERN BUREAU:

TWO CUBANS, a father and his daughter, were arrested in a major drug bust in Montego Bay last evening, when detectives from the Area One Narcotics Division seized 170 pounds of cocaine at their apartment in Montego Bay.

Juan Pastor Caldron, 49-year-old mechanic and his daughter Raiza Caldron, a 23-year-old model, both of Havana, Cuba, will face the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court tomorrow.

Raiza is also a resident of Jamaica, having got married to a Jamaican four years ago. They have since separated.

Reports from the police say the find was made after the Narcotics Police conducted a search of a room at the Bayshore Apartments in Ironshore, an upscale community on the outskirts of Montego Bay.

During the search, police say they discovered white powdery substance resembling cocaine stashed away in three suitcases belonging to the Caldrons.

The suitcases and drugs were seized and the two taken to the Montego Bay Police Station where they were charged with possession of and dealing in cocaine. Raiza has been living in the island for the past four years, while her father has been here for the past five months.
