DENHAM Town grabbed three more points to move past St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) in Group E of the Pepsi Manning Cup schoolboy football competition after defeating them 1-0 at Seprod field yesterday.

The winner was scored in the 67th minute by substitute Andrew Gordon.

Denham Town are now on 11 points and jump into third position while STATHS, who remain on eight points, slipped to fourth.

Denham Town's coach Dennis Hutchinson praised the youngsters for what he thought was a "good performance" but there was an obvious breakdown in the team's midfield.

Centre half Richard Martin did well in defence and got good support from Omar Hunniegan, Ricardo Tucker and Damion Buckham.

The half ended 0-0 and saw a number of changes being effected when action resumed.

Denham Town reaped dividends from replacing Hunnieghan with Gordon who made his presence felt as soon as he entered the field.

In scoring the 73rd minute strike, Gordon dismissed two defenders, left goalkeeper Clayson Panton wallowing in the mud and fired home from the right corner of the 18 yard box.

STATHS meanwhile got their best chance of the match in the 83rd minute when Ryan Williams floated a kick over to Carl Davis who fired at goal but his attempt flew over the crossbar.

And despite allround good performances by Andre Hinds, Delroy Booth and Claude Darling in the dying minutes, they still went home pointless.

"We played much better than we did last week. The defensive unit played well but we need to do some more work in the middle," Hutchinson said.
