Ninja ManRAIN caused a postponement of the Sound Waves Pre-Anniversary Party but didn't put a damper on Ninja Man or the crowd that had gathered to see him.
The event, which was scheduled to start at 9 p.m., did not get under way until 10 p.m. because of the weather. The estimated 200 persons who gathered at the Asylum Nightclub were not bored as Soundwave kept them entertained all night. From the early stages when the audience had learnt of the postponement of the event, the presence of Ninja Man, who was scheduled to appear along with Marcia Griffiths, kept them excited.
At about 1:30 a.m., clad in a cream-coloured suit, the dapper looking Ninja Man took the stage. The crowd went wild sensing that he would, as always, satisfy their hunger with his hardcore lyrics.
He waited for the cheers to die down then said: "Bounty Killer yuh caan stop deejay down yah. Lady Saw yuh caan mek police frighten yuh. But man a bad man so unu caan tek out unu handcuff cause mi nah stop do wha mi a do to ...". The crowd came alive with this statement. He then delivered It Hurt Mi Heart to voice his displeasure about the clamp-down on deejays who use expletives on-stage.
After this, he launched an attack on Merciless, who he said had failed to kill him lyrically. The audience cheered.
He then took a trip down memory lane by performing songs such as Long Fi Release, Fat Inna... among others. He called up unknown deejay, Ben Up, who gave the audience more to cheer about before exiting.
Ninja, who left the stage after a series of old hits, was called up for a second stint. After belting off lyrics about the altercation with his uncle which left him in hospital, the Don Gorgon went after Merciless again.
"Merciless seh him kill mi, but di fus big show him go pon fi star up dem nearly lick him off a stage," he said. He then belted out more hits which had the crowd jumping before he left.
He returned several minutes later and called up Lone Ranger. Together they had the crowd cheering as they combined well on-stage and performed Let Me Tell You About A Girl I Know. After several minutes of exchanging old tunes, Ninja left, promising more when the real show takes place.
